A 14-year-old Michigan girl has been accused of stabbing her grandmother to death, officials said.
The teen, who was not identified because she’s a juvenile, faces a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of her 65-year-old grandmother, Cynthia Mosby, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Saturday.
Prosecutors allege the teen stabbed her grandmother multiple times with a kitchen knife at their home in Canton on Feb. 21, WSLS-TV reported.
The grandmother’s body was discovered face-down by her son in her bedroom, the outlet reported.
Following the slaying, the teen fled about 20 miles away to a motel in Southgate, officials said. She was found there by authorities the day after the murder.
“The fatal stabbing of Ms. Mosby is very sad and disturbing. Ms. Mosby was a nurse who was raising her granddaughter. Our prayers go out to her son and family,” prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement, WSLS reported.
If the teen is convicted of murder, a judge would be able to decide whether to sentence her as an adult or a juvenile or a combination of both, prosecutors said.
